 Kiltorcan Karting 6th May

Karting

Welcome back from the long weekend.

We are currently planning a trip to Kiltorcan Karting Track in Kilkenny to take place at the end of the exams around the end of May.

We are well aware that most people are swamped with projects, presentations, and all the other boring bits of college, as are most of the Karting Commitee. This is the main reason for the timing of this trip, as we do not want a repeat of last time.

So until then we will be will be taking the names of people interested in this trip up untill the 14th of May and then arrange an exact time and day that suits them. Prices will be €15euro, and we estimate that the time we would be leaving the college would be around 12 to be in Kilkenny for around half 2-3. This will more than likely be on a weekday due to a number of people having weekend jobs.

BUT as we have said already nothing is set in stone and all the little details will be sorted when we have a fixed list. I will add the names here as soon as they are available.

LIST
Alan Rice,
Eamonn Deegan,
Paul Connolly,
Mark Harman,
Robert Ryan,
Martin Wisely.

 Kiltorcan (Kilkenny) 6th April

Intervarsity

First off,

Well Done to Roughan O'Neill who came 3rd over-all at the Kiltorcan (Kilkenny) Intervarsity.

Twenty Seven Drivers took part in a massive grand-prix, everyone was out on the track at once and it was crazy.

One of the best Races I've taken part in so far.

Information:

Report:

The Event was the Grand-Prix, they managed to get all 27 Karts out at once on the track, (very Formula 1!). We ran the warm-up laps, the qualifying, and the actual race itself with out ever having to re-enter the pits. They managed this by stopping everyone on the home-straight and aligning them there and then for the next session. We did warm-up laps and qualifying for around 10mins, and then the whole grand prix took place non-stop for just under an hour.

The Karts are gas powered 270cc and are easily faster than Kylemore, but Galway's Pallas Karting still have the fastest. All the Karts were kept in perfect condition and were all evenly matched.

The Track itself was great, very twisty with lots of turns to challenge the drivers, again the track is kept in perfect condition.

The Staff were very professional and accommodating, even with our extra driver! So a big thanks to them. They managed to keep everything organized with out losing their cool as can happen with such large groups at Karting, everything went off with out a hitch and never seemed rushed. Definitely the best I've experienced yet.

Over-All I think Kilkenny Track was the most professionally run, with great Karts and a great Track. Considering how new the club is, that's pretty impressive, hopefully it will keep up these high standards for a good while yet, and it will see plenty of business.

As a result of our positive experience of this Track we are thinking of organizing an outing down there before the year is out.

Well done again to Roughan for this top 3 placement at the Intervarsity. Pictures and over all results will be posted as soon as they are available.

 Kylemore Outing 14th March

LeaguesWe had our first outing of the new year, at LAST! And it took place in the old reliable Kylemore Track.

Information:

  • Final Heat Results
  • League Table
  • Pictures From Kylemore

  • Report:

    The Karts
Most of the Karts seemed to have been replaced/repaired and were all very good, good handling, good accleration and fairly evenly matched , but why O why did they put a limiter on them. Its worth mentioning that there was Kart that seemed unable to stear on the first left hander going down the hill and I pity anyone who had it, I got it twice, it basically ruined that heat and could lose you the race. Happened to myself and Eddie, maybe more people too in the Final Heats.
Over all though, the karts were much improved, just get rid of that speed LIMITER, slowing us down! Very bad.

    Warm Up Laps
They were posssbily the worst I've ever seen but so funny, 4 or 5 crashes in the space of 5mins. Ngoctu planting his car into the pits and causing a tail-back of parked Karts, I thought the lads with the red flags flying above there heads were about to lose it. Having said all that, I think it was the first time that we didn't put a Kart out of comission, think someone lost some body work though.

    Finals
No real surprise Roughan O'Neill finishing top followed closely by Gavin Walsh and Mark Harman.
Looking forward to our races in Santry Now. All booked see below post for more information.
